The
SCS sponsors two weekly onsite events (Open Circle and Doing the
Do), a weekly audio teaching, and various other gatherings in
support of the non-profit's purpose on a donation basis. The
contributions that you make to the Society of Conscious Service at
these events (or at other times) directly benefit the Society and
fund its activities. All donations made to the SCS/Society
of Conscious Service are tax-deductible as a charitable
contribution.
We
have chosen to operate SCS-sponsored events on a donation basis
because we believe strongly that spiritual development
technologies and support must be available to everyone, regardless
of their financial means.

ARE MY DONATIONS USED?
We
have no ongoing paid staff.
Your
donations help to pay for rent, utilities, and supplies for the
temple space in Port Townsend, office supplies and postage for the
Society's educational and outreach activities, and
fees/licenses/legal consultation required for the organization to
maintain its non-profit status. All of our website and email
list maintenance, accounting, bookkeeping, webspace, and office
management is freely donated by a small group of dedicated
volunteers.
Weekly
events/classes sponsored by the Society of Conscious Service are
provided on a donation basis -- at these gatherings,
participants decide whether, when, and what, they wish to donate.
This ensures that the these events remain available to all,
regardless of their financial means. Your donation (of
money, time, or supplies) helps to make this possible.
Our
current ministers, Ashielah (formerly, Kumatriel) and Carol
Steinel present Open Circle and Doing the Do class every week on a
volunteer basis. They also create and prepare the weekly
audio teaching for our online listeners. They receive no
remuneration for the preparation, presentation, or clean-up
required for these activities, and any donation you make to the
SCS do not go to them personally -- if you would like to donate
directly in support of the ministers, you may do so -- please make
a separate donation in this case, made payable to: Carol
Steinel. (Please note that donations/gifts made directly to
the ministers are not tax-deductible.)
The
Society also sometimes sponsors special classes or events, offered
for a set fee, which are presented by our ministers and other
qualified practitioners.

WHO
DECIDES HOW DONATIONS ARE USED?
Choices
about how donations are used are made by our Board of Directors
and organizational Officers, who serve on a volunteer basis
without compensation. Board minutes and financial
records are publicly available upon request, in accordance with
State Law regarding non-profit organizations.
WHY
DONATE?
When
you donate to the Society, you directly support its activities and
goals. We request that, when you attend a Society-sponsored
event, you consider the Cosmic Law of Equal Exchange, and give
something which represents what you feel you have received.
We honor donations of money, materials, and service equally, and
encourage you to offer a donation of flowers, a box of tea,
volunteer time, etc., if you cannot donate monetarily at the time
of your participation.
If
you do have the means to donate monetarily, please do so to
the highest level of your ability to give. We usually
provide a "suggested donation" level for those who want
a guideline about donation for classes and weekly Doing the Do
classes, but we do not exclude anyone from participation due to
lack of ability to donate monetarily.
We
also bless our donation basket with "the law of ten-fold
return" -- may your donation increase you in every way!
